Studio h's Svalbardi: An Exquisite Blend of Design and Purity

Unveiling the Unique Aesthetics of the Award-Winning Polar Iceberg Water Bottle

Studio h's Svalbardi, a unique water bottle design inspired by the pristine landscapes of the Arctic, has been recognized for its innovative approach to packaging. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind this award-winning design.

The design of Svalbardi was born out of a desire to encapsulate the serene beauty of the polar landscape. Studio h veered away from the clichéd images of icebergs and arctic scenes, opting instead for a minimalist design that allows the bottle and its contents to evoke the tranquility and purity of the Arctic. The simple colored neck band mirrors the blue and green hues found in icebergs, while the wooden cap draws inspiration from Arctic driftwood. The ice crystal motif, which comes to life as a repeat pattern on the gift tube and all collateral, is another nod to the Nordic origins of Svalbardi.

What sets Svalbardi apart from other designs is its unique source and purity. The water is harvested from pristine icebergs freshly calved off glaciers in the remote Svalbard archipelago. The result is water so pure it is almost mineral-free. This purity is reflected in the minimalist design, which relies on the bottle and water to convey the stillness and purity of the Arctic. The inclusion of a gift tube, unusual in the water market, further distinguishes Svalbardi as a unique purchase.

The realization of Svalbardi involved a glass bottle with screen printing and a textured paper label with black foil blocking. The sustainable stained wooden cap features inlaid foil silver, while the cardboard tube is flat metallic with cold foil on top. The gentle flaring of the bottle neck, inspired by the shape of icebergs, ensures a perfectly balanced grip for pouring.

Studio h's design process was underpinned by extensive research into the ancient spelling of Svalbardi, meaning "cold coasts" and named by ancient seafarers. The brandmark incorporates an ancient regional accent on the "d", a nod to the Nordic origins of Svalbardi. The bottle and lid shape, as well as the graphics, drew inspiration from local communities, Arctic landscapes, and references to ancient explorers discovering the cold coasts.

Despite the challenges of ensuring the flared neck was strong enough to be held while remaining elegant, Studio h succeeded in creating a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. This achievement did not go unnoticed. Svalbardi was awarded Platinum in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2016, a testament to its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design.

In conclusion, Studio h's Svalbardi is a testament to the power of design to encapsulate and convey the unique qualities of a product. By drawing inspiration from the Arctic landscape and focusing on the purity of the water, Studio h has created a design that is not only visually stunning but also deeply evocative of its source. It is no surprise that this design has been recognized with such a prestigious award.
